This personal and political biography provides a detailed history of the times, from the unusual perspective of one who had a parent in Parliament.
Born in South Dunedin in 1899, Phil Connolly worked as an engine fitter at the Hillside Railway Workshops until the outbreak of WWII. On departure for war he was described as “one the most prominent members of the Labour Party in Dunedin - a young man with a decided future’.

It was my great honour to be endorsed by the recent Annual Conference as the new General Secretary of the Labour Party.
I am constantly amazed at the passion and energy our members have for ensuring New Zealand is a land of social justice and fairness. And we will need all of this passion and energy as we fight back against the National Government’s increasing attacks on worker rights, public services and the Kiwi fair-go.

A workshop was set aside at last weekend's conference to announce exciting new fundraising ideas to boost the Party's coffers for election 2011. A hardworking fundraising team have organised some great projects and urged Party delegates to get behind them and to take them back to their Party organisations.
The Labour Party is looking to re-claim Labour Weekend with it’s Labour Weekend Party initiative.

The Mt Albert by-election campaign kicks off this weekend. If you can help please come to the by-election head quarters at 34 Ethel St, off Sandringham Road at 1.30 pm Saturday 25 April and from 10 am Sunday April 26. We'll give you all the training and resources that you need to keep Mt Albert Labour. You just need to bring your smile and maybe a raincoat and an umbrella (the forecast isn't great!).

Former Deputy Prime Minister Michael Cullen announced today that he will be resigning from Parliament at the end of this month.
“I will be taking up a position on 1 May as a director of New Zealand Post. I will take over as deputy chairman on 1 October this year,” Dr Cullen said.
